Bangkok: The Bus Terminal Authority (BTA) revealed that yesterday saw a new high of 140,000 people traveling home to celebrate the New Year.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Atthawit Rakchamroon, Managing Director of the Transport Company Limited (BKS), provided data on travel back to hometowns during the New Year festival 2026. He stated that there were 89,029 passengers traveling out of Bangkok and 52,601 passengers returning, totaling 141,630 passengers. A total of 7,739 trips were made using buses from BKS and its partner companies, comprising 4,091 outbound trips and 3,648 return trips. The bus service was managed adequately, ensuring that all passengers safely reached their destinations with no reports of stranded travelers.
Today, many people continue to travel back to their hometowns on short routes such as Bangkok – Pattaya, Bangkok – Nakhon Ratchasima, and Bangkok – Nakhon Sawan. It is estimated that over 80,000 people will be making round trips using approximately 5,000 bus trips, encompassing both government-owned and privately operated buses.
