Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has extended his congratulations and best wishes to all Cambodian Muslims, both inside and outside the country, as well as Muslims all over the world, on the celebration of Hari Raya Haji, which falls this year on June 7. ‘I and my wife would like to congratulate the 1,200 Cambodian Muslims who attended the Hajj, a religious obligation, in Saudi Arabia, along with other Muslims from all around the world,’ he wrote in a social media post this morning.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Hari Raya Haji, also known as Eid Al-Adha or the Great Day of Sacrifice, is celebrated on the 10th day of Zulhijjah and marks the end of the Hajj or Haji event. Hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia that every Muslim must make at least once in their lifetime if they are able; it is the most spiritual event that a Muslim experiences, observing rituals in the most sacred places in the Islamic world.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also expressed his gratitude to the Cambodian Muslims who have joined other Cambodians of different religious beliefs in maintaining peace and living in harmony under the leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia. ‘My wife and I wish all Cambodian Muslims, both inside and outside the country, success in their religious endeavours, and we wish all Muslims happiness and prosperity,’ he concluded.
