Tourism Ministry Expresses Deep Regret over Incident with Indonesian Tourist


Phnom penh: The Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia has issued a public statement expressing deep regret over an incident involving an Indonesian tourist who was questioned regarding documentation by traffic police officers.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Ministry of Tourism also extended sincere thanks to Lieutenant General CHUON Narin, Deputy Commissioner-General and Commissioner of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, for resolving the matter with precision and timeliness.



The ministry emphasized the importance of cooperation and encouraged stakeholders within the tourism sector to continue promoting Cambodia as a safe and welcoming destination for both national and international tourists. This call to action was underscored in the ministry’s statement, highlighting the need for ongoing collaboration to support the tourism industry.



Recent reports indicated that an Indonesian-registered car was stopped at a traffic light in Sangkat Sras Chak, Khan Daun Penh, where the vehicle and other documents were questioned. In response to the incident, nine traffic police officers and contract officers involved were summoned for a thorough investigation, following police procedures and expertise, as reported by the Information and Quick Reaction Team of the Commissariat of Phnom Penh Municipal Police.
