Army out to lay seige to leaders Svay Rieng
The Metfone C-League resumes this weekend after a break of more than a month with a showdown between leaders Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng and Ministry of National Defence featuring on Saturday’s three-match card.
After 13 matches, Svay Rieng, with 28 points, lead rivals Army by a solitary point and go into this crucial tie with home advantage.
Another interesting matchup for the day is between third-placed NagaWorld and defending Champions Boeung Ket Angkor, who occupy fifth spot in the standings.
The twilight clash at the Olympic Stadium will be a key contest for both sides in the fight for the top four bracket at the halfway point in the second round of matches.
Both Boeung Ket and Naga can take comfort from their pre-break performances in the Singapore Cup, where both Cambodian invitees grabbed quarterfinal spots.
In Saturday’s third fixture Western Phnom Penh will host CMAC United, with both teams struggling at the wrong end of the table.
In Sunday’s fare, fourth-placed Phnom Penh Crown will travel to Svay Rieng for their clash with Electricite du Cambodge. With the top half of the table tightening up, Crown will be looking for an impressive win to consolidate their position.
The six-time champions saw several of their young brigade perform well during Cambodia’s campaign in the AFC U23 Championship qualifiers last week.
The beleaguered Kirivong Sok Sen Chey, who are sitting at the bottom of the barrel, will be up against Cambodian Tiger at their den in Siem Reap.
At Old Stadium, Asia Euro United will take on Commissary of National Police.
