Cambodia Seeks Prompt Convening of Joint Boundary Commission Meeting

Phnom penh: Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has expressed hope that the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) between Cambodia and Thailand will be convened soon to address border management issues.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Cambodian Premier shared on his social media platforms that the Agreed Minutes from the 1st Special General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting between Cambodia and Thailand, held on September 10, 2025, in Koh Kong province, clearly indicate a mutual recognition of the JBC as a crucial mechanism for resolving issues related to joint survey and demarcation. The minutes, signed by H.E. General Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Cambodia, and H.E. General Nattaphon Narkphanit, Acting Minister of Defence of Thailand, highlighted incidents in the area between Chork Chey village in Cambodia and Nong Chan village in Thailand as a priority agenda for the next JBC Meeting.

The Cambodian Prime Minister also mentioned that both countries have tasked the Regional Border Committee (RBC) with managing border issues in alignment with discussions held under the JBC framework. The recent delay in the JBC meeting, initially scheduled for September, has been attributed to changes in the composition of JBC Thailand. Samdech Thipadei expressed optimism that the meeting will occur soon to address the ongoing border concerns.
