Cambodian Para Athletes Positive of Better Performance

Cambodian para athletes are committed to increasing medal tally by 50 percent, from the previous base, at the on-going 12th ASEAN Para Games in the country.

Representing her peers, Ms. Vet Chantha, the three-gold medallists, was positive that the target is achievable and thanked the Royal Government as well as the games’ organising committee, donors and other stakeholders for their support.

In the 11th ASEAN Para Games in Indonesia, Cambodia won 28 medals, including 7 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze.

According to H.E. Yi Veasna, Secretary General of the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia (NPCC), Cambodia has a total of 252 para athletes competing in 261 of some 430 sports events of 13+1 types of sports at the 12th ASEAN Para Games.

As of this evening, at 9:00 pm, the Cambodian para athletes bagged 41 medals: 6 gold, 12 silver, and 23 bronze.

While presiding over the graduation ceremony of nearly 6,000 students of the Royal University of Law and Economics at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh on Monday, Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has reassured that Cambodia will host the 12th ASEAN Para Games with high responsibility.

As the host of the games, what is most important for Cambodia is to ensure a unity of over 600 million people of ASEAN, so we must take good care of all participating athletes, he added.

Taking place in Phnom Penh, the 12th ASEAN Para Games was officially kick-started on June 3 and will run until Jun. 9.

The sports listed for the games are Athletics, Badminton, Boccia, Chess, 5-a-side Football, 7-a-side Football, Goalball, Judo, Powerlifting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Siting Volleyball, Wheelchairs Basketball, and E-sports (Demonstration).
