The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, has continued this work and promoted the development of the canal project to be a success.

Cambodian people share the same ideas that the Funan Techo Canal project, which connects the river to the sea route, passing through Kandal, Takeo, Kampot and Kep provinces with a length of 180 kilometres, will provide great benefits for Cambodia, especially in the transport sector, such as reducing transport costs, time, distance, road damage, traffic congestion and traffic accidents.

The project will also help reducing p
rocedures for ships and formalities for transit of goods from Cambodia to the sea, and contribute to the establishment of more trade areas, special economic zones and new satellite ports; the expansion of agricultural, irrigation, aquaculture and tourism development zones; flood relief during the rainy season; the increase in freshwater fishery products; the promotion of real estate sector and other investments, etc.

Overall, the Funan Techo Canal is a project that serves the great national interest, especially in the socio-economic field.

The US$1.7 billion Funan Techo Canal project is expected to be broken ground for construction at the end of 2024, for a period of about four years.
