Thakurgaon: BSRI Director General Dr. Kabir Uddin Ahmed emphasized that fostering entrepreneurship among the July warriors can create significant employment opportunities in emerging sectors related to sugar crops, including coconut. He made these remarks while inaugurating a training program during the Youth Festival-2025, aimed at motivating young people to become entrepreneurs through various technologies developed by BSRI.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Bangladesh Sugarcrop Research Institute (BSRI) Thakurgaon Regional Centre organized the program titled 'Honey Production Techniques and Healthy Granular Molasses Production and Storage Techniques for Young Entrepreneurs.' Dr. Ahmed highlighted that initially, the Sugar Crop Research Institute focused solely on sugar production from sugarcane. However, with the incorporation of advanced international ideas, the institute's activities have significantly expanded.
Dr. Ahmed further elaborated that BSRI has commenced research activities on a variety of crops, including pulses, dates, stevia, almonds, coconuts, and even grapes. He noted that the production of healthy sugar from stevia, which avoids the harmful effects of white sugar, is being prioritized in the country. This shift in focus signifies a broader vision to integrate diverse agricultural products into the national economy.
The program was presided over by BSRI Thakurgaon Regional Centre Chief Research Officer and Station In-charge Dr. Md. Sohrab Hossain. The event also featured special guests such as BSRI Director (Research) Dr. Md. Ataur Rahman and Director (TOT) Dr. Selina Akhtar, who contributed to the discussions on the future directions of sugar crop research and entrepreneurship.
