Female Civil Servants to Benefit from Same Cash Support Programme as Female Factory Workers

Pregnant civil servants, interns and contract officials will be entitled to the same allowances and benefits as pregnant factory workers and employees.

The cash support programme was announced by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen at a get-together with nearly 20,000 factory workers and employees in Ang Snuol district, Kandal province this morning.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen asked H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance, to prepare a separate sub-decree to implement this support programme for pregnant civil servants, interns and contract officials and their newborns until they reach two years of age.

For female police officers and soldiers, the Premier instructed the finance minister to discuss the matter with the interior and national defence ministers.

It is estimated that the government would spent around US$3 million annually to support pregnant civil servants, interns and contract officials.

On May 22, 2023, in the second round of his visit to factory workers and employees, Samdech Techo Prime Minister decided to increase the cash support for pregnant workers and employees and their newborns the same as those who hold an equity card.

From August 2023 onwards, female workers and employees can have prenatal benefits four times, and each time they can get 80,000 Riel (about US$20).

They will obtain 800,000 Riel (US$200) and 1,200,000 Riels (US$300) if they give birth to a child and twins, respectively, while they will receive up to 1.6 million Riel (US$400) and a personal cash subsidy of 5 million Riel (US$1,250) from Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his spouse if they have triplets.

After childbirth, they will get 10 more times of allowances with 80,000 Riel each time until their babies reach the age of two years old.

In total, each pregnant factory worker and employee will receive 1,920,000 Riels, approximately US$480 from this cash support programme.
