Jakarta (ANTARA) - Acting Minister of Communication and Informatics Mahfud MDhas asked broadcasting agencies, both public and private, to ensure healthy, quality, and responsible broadcasting during the 2024 general elections."Not only the National Broadcasting Commission (KPI) and state-owned television TVRI, but public broadcasters such as public radio station RRI and state news agency LKBN ANTARA, and private television need to ensure quality and responsible media broadcasting in facing the elections," he said here on Friday. Mahfud made the remarks after inaugurating nine members of the Central KPI for the 20222025 period and five members of the TVRI's supervisory board for the 20222027 period at the ministry's office. ccording to him, an election marks the peak of democracy and gives people the opportunity to express their voices and vote for the nation's future. Therefore, broadcasting and media agencies have a crucial role in providing accurate, objective, and balanced information to the public, Mahfud said. "Through broadcasting channels and media platforms, voters can gain the knowledge they need to make smart decisions in choosing their next leaders," he explained. Mahfud also asked broadcasting agencies to participate in educating the public so that things such as terror, document forgery, and money politics do not occur on a large scale. "Media broadcasting can be a complex battleground in the context of elections. Political competition, the spread of fake news, and public opinion can affect integrity and fairness in the democratic process," Mahfud said. He also invited all components of society to help monitor broadcasting agencies in facing the challenges and opportunities that have arisen with the times. "(Media) need to maintain professionalism, strengthen integrity, and accountability, and increase synergy and collaboration in order to advance the implementation of broadcasting in Indonesia," he said.
