Her Majesty Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk has recently granted a royal audience to Indian Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Devyani Khobragade at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh.
According to a press release of the Embassy of India in Cambodia AKP received this evening, during the meeting on June 23, H.E. Ambassador Khobragade briefed Her Majesty the Queen-Mother on the successful state visit of His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, the King of Cambodia, to India from May 29-31, 2023. She also extended her wishes to the Queen-Mother on behalf of the Indian people and government on the occasion of Her Majesty’s 87th birthday.
The Queen-Mother expressed her gratitude and deep appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to His Majesty the King during his visit to India. She also highlighted the close bilateral relations between India and Cambodia during the leadership of the late King-Father Norodom Sihanouk.
Ambassador Khobragade expressed her pleasure at the fruitful state visit during her ambassadorship and expressed her appreciation for the strong and enduring ties between India and Cambodia. She also reassured the Indian government’s efforts towards the development of Cambodia and significant role that India has played in promoting peace and stability in the region. She also presented gifts to Her Majesty on behalf of the honorable speaker of India H.E Mr. Om Birla and her own behalf.
The state visit of His Majesty the King marked the culmination of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Cambodia in 1952. This historic event was the first time in almost six decades that a Cambodian King had visited India since the visit by King Norodom Sihanouk in 1963. During the state visit, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
“The royal audience and the state visit reflect the strong spirit of friendship and partnership between India and Cambodia, which will continue to thrive and prosper in the years to come,” stressed the press release.
