TEAM Mulatto Davao booked a trip to the World Ultimate Frisbee championship slated July 2018 in Oakland Ohio after winning the Philippine’s first World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) 2017 Asia Oceanic Ultimate and Guts Club Championships title at the Ayala Alabang Country Club in Manila recently.

Jean Tuvilla, representative of Mulatto Davao, bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at The Annex of SM City Davao on Thursday, August 31.

Tuvilla said Mulatto Davao rallied past Boracay Bandits, 15-8, in the championship match to secure the mixed division title in the quadrennial event that was also participated by teams from Australia, New Zealand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Korea, Thailand and other teams from the country.

The feat came on the heels of losing their first two matches against Japan and Singapore which relegated them to the bottom of the bracket.

“Pero di po kami na napanghinaan ng loob at mas na-encourage namin yung mga teammates namin,” Tuvilla said, adding that they secured their first win opposite Korea, 15-6.

Mulatto Davao then maintained its winning streak and secured an outright semifinals berth against powerhouse Paradigm Australia whom they upset, 15-7.

“Ang goal po namin is makapasok lang sa top four pero binigay po talaga sa amin,” Tuvilla added.

Mulatto Davao gained exposure from several national and international events including2016 Manila Spirits, Nationals 2016 and the Zone Cup 2015 in Vietnam where they emerged champion, earning them a slot in the quadrennial event.

“This was the first time Mulatto was given a chance to join in a major WFDF event so we had trained hard for this with the hope to well-represent our beloved country in regional event,” Tuvilla qouted Lien Verdeprado, Mulatto Davao’s spirit captain.

Mulatto Davao was also bannered by Jo Angelica Francia, Jean Tiana Lim, Abigail Madrona, Rozel Barug, Jean, Kristel Gale Cornel, April Adalim, Joan Coleen Lim, Eileen Piquero, Gerard Castor, John Harvie Dindin, Dayson de Vera, Dann Noelle Mazene Avena, Drian Verdeprado, Jan Jan Sumading, Joie Monterola, Daisy Jane Cimafranca, Vergil Nelson Canedo, Carlos Anthony Montejo, Kaiser Angelo Basil, Vincent Balucanag, Jeaster Sabornido, Bryle Quimintan, Brian Paulino, Adrian Roy Delfin and Marvin Subang.
