MYANMAR RECEIVES 2.84 MILLION TOURISTS IN 10 MONTHS, THAILAND TOPS ASIAN VISITORS
YANGON, Myanmar, Myanmar attracted over 2.84 million tourists, as of Oct this year, according to the figures from the Hotel and Tourism Ministry, on Saturday.
Figures in this year show a slight increase of foreign visitors, compared with 2.81 million in the same period of last year.
Of Asian travellers, over 236,441 visitors from Thailand arrived in Myanmar, while France topped the list of western travellers, followed by those of the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy.
Aiming to attract more visitors, the country is striving to promote ecotourism, cultural tourism and community-based tourism, in resource-rich areas, such as, historical landscapes, rivers, lakes, beaches, islands and forests.
Moreover, the government has recently announced that, visa exemption has been granted to Japanese and South Korean visitors, as well as, visa-on-arrival access to Chinese travellers, starting from Oct 1, 2018.
