PM: Offenses during Traditional New Year Celebration Down


Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has noted that the Khmer Traditional New Year Festival ended with joyfulness, good order and safety.

At the inauguration ceremony of new achievements of the National Defence University of Cambodia, held here this morning, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said offenses happened during the four-day celebration of the traditional new year saw a significant decrease of about 30 percent.

‘Our traditional new year was celebrated joyfully everywhere, while the number of offenses declined by some 30 percent,’ he pointed out.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also expressed his gratitude to all competent forces and authorities for their efforts in ensuring a smooth and safe celebration.

Cambodia saw a high record of nearly 22 million trips to different tourist destinations across the country during the four-day holiday of Khmer Traditional New Year, from April 13 to 16.

Of the total number, 21.70 million were made by national tourists and local people, while the number of
foreign tourists was recorded at 110,000.

Kampong Cham province took the lead by receiving more than 5.3 million tourists, followed by Prey Veng province with nearly 2.3 million, Kampong Speu province with 2.1 million, Battambang province with more than 1.7 million, and Kampot province with 1.4 million.

During the four-day celebration there were in total 79 cases of offenses, and 150 suspects were arrested.
