Bangkok: The Commissioner General of Police has ordered a mobilization of forces to ensure security throughout the New Year period. The Commissioner General of Police has ordered the mobilization of over 30,000 police officers to ensure security and manage traffic throughout the New Year period, with an additional 7,300 officers deployed to oversee countdown events nationwide. The Commissioner General will personally oversee operations 24 hours a day.

According to Thai News Agency, Police General Kittiratt Phanphet, the Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, has revealed that during the New Year’s holiday period of 2026, he has ordered the mobilization of over 30,000 police officers nationwide to ensure security and manage traffic. He emphasized measures for crime prevention and suppression, maintaining public order, law enforcement, and facilitating traffic during the New Year’s holiday, 24 hours a day. He assigned Deputy Commissioners General responsible for various tasks to closely oversee the operation.

Regarding security and public order, instructions have been given to upgrade security measures in public areas, establishing a network of checkpoints and roadblocks covering all areas, especially on New Year’s Eve. This is particularly important during this period as 337 countdown events and prayer ceremonies will be held nationwide. Of these, 36 are large-scale events with more than 1,000 attendees. In Bangkok, six major event venues – ICONSIAM, Khao San Road, CentralWorld, Rajamangala National Stadium, Asiatique, and One Bangkok – have been deployed, with over 7,300 police officers deployed to reinforce operations across the country.

For residences participating in the “Leave Your Home with the Police” (Home Watch 4.0) program, police in all areas have been instructed to increase vigilance and close monitoring. This year, the Royal Thai Police offered the program for citizens to entrust their homes to the police during the New Year holiday period, from December 22, 2025, to January 5, 2026. From December 22 to 31, 2025, a total of 6,324 homes were entrusted to the police. 5,620 homes were registered via the “Vacation House Watch” application, and 704 homes were registered at police stations. Of these, 119 homes have been returned, leaving 6,205 homes remaining under the program’s care. All homes are reported to be secure.

Regarding traffic management and road accident reduction, over 23,000 traffic police officers have been mobilized to manage traffic, establish more than 3,000 checkpoints nationwide for traffic enforcement and alcohol testing. Measures to prevent and reduce losses and the severity of accidents are being emphasized, coupled with strict enforcement of traffic laws, particularly focusing on key offences that are risk factors for accidents, such as driving under the influence of alcohol and not wearing helmets.

Furthermore, the Commissioner General of Police stated that on New Year’s Eve, he has instructed police in all areas to increase patrols and deploy officers to large-scale events and high-risk locations to prevent crime, altercations, and other disruptive incidents. This will be coupled with strict enforcement of traffic laws, including setting up checkpoints for alcohol testing and enforcing traffic regulations to prevent accidents, particularly those caused by drunk driving and speeding. Police officers will also be on hand to facilitate traffic flow and provide immediate assistance to citizens experiencing incidents or requiring help. The Commissioner General will personally oversee and manage these operations 24 hours a day. Citizens who encounter incidents or require assistance can contact the hotline 191 or 1599, available 24 hours a day.
