Bangkok Central Station Prepares for Over 102,946 Passengers on New Year’s Day

Bangkok: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has made necessary preparations at Bangkok Central Station to accommodate over 102,946 passengers expected to travel on New Year’s Day. Anan Pothinimdaeng, Deputy Governor and Acting Governor of the SRT, emphasized the importance of ensuring that no passengers were left stranded.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pothinimdaeng conducted a thorough inspection of the station’s services to ensure convenient and safe travel for individuals heading to their hometowns or vacation destinations during the long New Year holiday in 2026. In an effort to spread holiday cheer, he also participated in distributing gifts to passengers.

Mr. Pothinimdaeng visited the SRT Safety Operations Center and the long-distance train preparation area to closely monitor the implementation of safety measures. He instructed staff to facilitate safe travel for all passengers, aligning with the “HNY 2569 – Happiness of All, Network of Care, Year of Safety” policy endorsed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Pipat Ratchakitprakarn.

The day before the holiday, on December 30, 2025, saw a significant number of passengers opting for train travel. To accommodate this demand, the SRT arranged seven additional special trains across the Northern, Northeastern, and Southern lines. This measure ensured sufficient capacity and prevented any passengers from being stranded.

On December 30, 2025, the nationwide train passenger count reached 102,946, with 47,267 inbound and 55,679 outbound passengers. The busiest routes included the Southern Line with 33,160 passengers, the Northeastern Line with 28,828 passengers, and the Northern Line with 20,386 passengers.

On December 31, 2025, the first day of the 2026 holiday period, passengers who pre-booked tickets arrived for their trains, especially those traveling on eastern routes and to nearby provinces. The SRT ensured sufficient trains and smooth ticket sales, with no passengers left stranded.
